Smart Aviation is a company created in 2012, when the initial founders, both captains at a world renowned airline, realized that training for Fuel Efficiency for flight personnel was poor and outdated. Only a handful of pilots received training, and even that was done via brochures and 10-30 minute talks during training sessions.
While developing our Fuel Optimization Training Tool, a web-based training course, we discovered the potential afforded by new developments in multimedia and content delivery. We quickly developed additional training courses for pilots and cabin crew. This got the attention of several clients who were looking for cost-effective solutions for their training needs.
Today, we are the main providers of online training courses for the Colombian Air Force (Fuerza Aérea Colombiana), and have other private clients who are leaving behind traditional training for our Virtual Training Methodology.

The training challenge
Our main challenge was to convince new clients that online training was equal and even better than traditional training for pilots and cabin crew.
Another challenge involved the certification of our training methods by the Civil Aviation Authorities. Flight training is highly regulated and requires fiscal infrastructure. We are currently working with the Civil Aviation Authority of Colombia, in order to change these requirements, and thus expand the real potential of virtual training.
